Polysorbate 20 primarily functions as a surfactant,emulsifier,solubilizer and a wetting agent
An emulsifying agent composed of laurate esters of sorbitol, specifically the monoester that is condensed with ethylene oxide (polyoxyethylene-20 sorbitan monostearate). HLB Value: 16–17 (gives oil-in-water emulsions).

Acts as dispersing agent and anti-static thickener
Very useful as solubilizer and stabilizer of essential oils.
Use
Can be added to formulas as is. Typical use level 2–10%. For external use only.
Applications
Creams, salves, ointments, balms, pomades, lipsticks, mascaras, and glosses.
